Free will doesn’t require God to allow evil to exist. Think about it—police can stop a bank robbery without endorsing the crime, and they can still ensure fair punishment for the criminals now, not in some distant future. So why would an all-powerful, all-loving God allow so much evil to persist unchecked, while innocent children suffer, families are torn apart by violence, and entire communities are destroyed by disasters?
As human beings, we don’t just sit back and wait for some “final judgment” to bring justice when harm is being done. We act because it’s necessary to protect others and prevent further suffering. So why would a loving God, who is supposedly far more powerful and compassionate than us, choose to allow so much pain and destruction without stepping in?
If imperfect humans are doing more to prevent harm and bring justice in the here and now than this “perfect” God, isn’t it time to question how loving this God really is—or if he’s even there at all? What do you think?
